Kate Hendry grew up in Surrey and Shropshire, and gained a love of the ocean from her parents and her big sisters. She studied Natural Sciences as an undergraduate at the University of Cambridge, before completing a doctorate at Oxford University in Antarctic biogeochemistry. Hendry was awarded a postdoctoral scholarship to work at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution in the United States, before returning to the UK as a Royal Society University Research Fellow at the University of Bristol. She has been recognised internationally as winner of the 2016 Houtermans Medal for geochemistry. Hendry is now a senior scientist at the British Antarctic Survey in the Polar Oceans Team, researching into ocean chemistry in the Arctic and Antarctic.
Dr Helen Scales fell in love with the oceans during childhood visits to Cornwall. At 16 she learnt to scuba dive and went on to become a marine biologist, living and working in many countries including in Malaysia, Madagascar, Fiji and Australia. While exploring the underwater world, Scales discovered a passion for writing. Among her highly acclaimed books are the Guardian bestseller Spirals in Time, The Brilliant Abyss and The Great Barrier Reef. Scales appears regularly on BBC radio and presents the Catch Our Drift podcast. She lives in Cambridge, England and the wild Atlantic coast of France.
Rômolo D'Hipólito is a Brazilian artist and illustrator. He is the winner of the 2019 Golden Pinwheel Special Mention Award and the 2018 Ibero-America Ilustra Catalog Official Selection.
